In November of 2020, California voters approved Proposition 19 (The Home Protection for Seniors, Severely Disabled, Families, and Victims of Wildfire or Natural Disasters Act), which, under specific circumstances, changed the way one could transfer a lower tax value to the purchase of a home, pass real estate to ones children or grandchildren, and more.
Effective April 1, 2021, there are now Prop 19 forms available for those selling a home. Prop 19 can dramitically impact ones tax consequences when selling and buying; we highly recommend contacting your legal and tax advisors with any questions.
